ARC International and Express Logic Team to Bring ThreadX RTOS to ARC(TM) 700 Family of Configurable Processors; Leading Royalty-Free RTOS Now Available to Developers Of ARC-Based(TM) Embedded Products

SAN DIEGO & SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 20, 2005— ARC International (LSE: ARK) and Express Logic, Inc., the leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that Express Logic has ported their ThreadX(R) RTOS to the ARC(TM) 700 family of configurable processors. Express Logic's ThreadX is a small-footprint, fast, royalty-free, uITRON 4.0-compatible real-time kernel, complemented by Express Logic's NetX(TM) TCP/IP stack and its FileX(TM) MS-DOS compatible FAT file system. All Express Logic products now support the ARC 600 and ARC 700 families of configurable processors.

The ARC 700 family of configurable cores combines a powerful 32-bit CPU and a full-featured DSP engine in a unified architecture. While capable of high clock rates, the ARC 700 has been carefully crafted not to make large tradeoffs in area for performance. ARC 700 cores have the computing power to meet the needs of the most demanding SoC tasks, like graphics, media codecs and packet processing. The ARC 700 cores are also an ideal platform for embedded OSs, such as ThreadX.

"Many of our ThreadX customers have found ARC's configurable cores ideal for applications demanding high performance in small, low power applications." said William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. "We are excited to further our partnership with ARC to bring ThreadX RTOS support to ARC's latest processor offerings."

"Our relationship with Express Logic and the availability of ThreadX are the latest examples of our efforts to provide ARC customers with the industry's best software through strong partnerships," said Derek Meyer, vice president of marketing for ARC International. "We already share very significant customers with Express Logic and we expect to see the combination of ThreadX and the ARC 700 core family capture new designs in the consumer, networking and medical instrumentation markets."

Availability

ThreadX, NetX, FileX, USBX and PegX all are available for the ARC 700 core family from Express Logic. ThreadX/uITRON 4.0 is available from GRAPE systems, Tokyo, Japan, under license from Express Logic. Prices start at $12,500 for a royalty-free license for ThreadX.

The ARC 700 Configurable Core Family

The ARC 700 family of high performance cores uses a seven-stage pipeline. Each core has DSP capability as a standard feature with optional DSP functions in the form of the ARC XY Advanced DSP subsystem. RTOS and secure processing support is provided, as is the option for a Memory Management Unit (MMU). The 700 core family also makes an ideal platform for devices requiring embedded Linux.
